In tonight’s session we looked at the first two Chapters of the Dawn-Breakers and discussed:
• Shaykh Ahmad and his travels
• Siyyid Kazem
• Mulla Hussayn
• The centrality of Shiraz to the beginnings of the Babi Faith.
We talked about the importance of perseverance, steadfastness, being bold and having courage. We mapped the travels of Shaykh Ahmad and discussed some of the qualities he possessed.
Further activities that can be undertaken relevant to tonight’s session are:
“Messenger Lantern” Craft: Create a paper lantern and on each side write a virtue Shaykh Aḥmad showed (e.g., knowledge, courage, trust in God).
“The Search Begins” Poster: Design a poster called “The Search Begins” that shows a traveler preparing for a journey to find truth. Add things like a lantern (for light), a compass (for guidance), shoes (for effort), and a heart (for love). Label each with its meaning.
Creative Writing Prompt: Write a short journal entry from the point of view of Mullá Ḥusayn, just after Siyyid Kázim’s death. How does he feel? What is he going to do next?
